Just a thought...

Something to think about for self-esteem, a paragraph from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-esteem says:
"Individuals who base their self-worth in a specific domain (such as, for example, academic success) leave themselves much more vulnerable to having their self-esteem threatened when negative events happen to them within that domain (such as when they fail a test at school). A 2003 study by Crocker found that students who based their contingency of self-worth on academic criteria had a greater likelihood of experiencing lower-state self-esteem, greater negative affect, and negative self-evaluative thoughts when they did not perform well on academic tasks, when they received poor grades, or when graduate schools rejected them (Crocker, Karpinski, Quinn, & Chase, 2003; Crocker, Sommers, & Luhtanen, 2002)."

In short, it means that when you feel confident about your talent (in sports, studies etc), theres a higher chance that your self-esteem will be lowered when something bad happens in that talent (for example, if you lose a match, fail your best subject etc). Students who get their self-esteem on their studies are more likely to have a low self-esteem when they did not do well in tests, projects, when they have bad results or when schools rejected their application.

I wonder if many students feel that way, I can see a lot of my classmates feeling disappointed when they did not do well in their tests, and I also feel the same, but maybe that's just for my school, or for Singapore. It'd be nice to know if there's a way to fix this common problem of students having a low self-esteem, because most students recieve education. Maybe that's why in every school, there's a councillor to talk to and feel better.

Of course, this doesn't apply to just everyone. I can also see some classmates of mine feel okay even though they did not do so well in other poeples opinion. I really like their optimism. Maybe if every student could feel that way, we won't have such news like a student killing a teacher over a bad grade for a project. If we could all just smile at our flaws and imperfections, the world could be a better place to live in.

But that's just my opinion. It just depends on how you want to see your flaws and mistakes, but I suggest that we should all make a change for the better.
